The Olifante of Malelane Rugby Club took on the Impalas Rugby Club of Komatipoort on Saturday for their second clash of the season. Both teams exhibited some great rugby but the match was cut short.
Beacon College, Horizon Academy and Riverview Prep pupils had lots of fun during friendly netball and soccer matches on Monday afternoon. Although some of the tiny netball players were unsure of all the rules and the pole measured about four times their height, they were very enthusiastic and learned a lot. The soccer match was action-packed.
Rainy weather and a muddy track didn’t deter hundreds of eager runners from competing in this year’s Selati Marathon on Saturday morning. Both the main races and fun run were well supported by locals and runners from all over SA and neighbouring countries.
The annual Lalapalm Golf Tournament in Malalane had around 90 players competing over four days last week. Despite being pitted against very experienced players, a local young development golfer walked away with the trophy on Saturday evening.

Spectators were on their feet for two exciting matches at the Malelane Rugby Club on Saturday. The club’s first and second teams played against Lydenburg in the first matches of the season, with Malelane I and Lydenburg II clinching victories.
The highlight of Malelane Rugby Club’s annual Rugby Weekend was the match between the SA Legends and Pumas Legends on Saturday afternoon. They showcased very entertaining rugby and excellent sportmanship. The Pumas Legends were victorious with a fulltime score of 28-7.
Atletes from the region’s independent schools Uplands Prep, Flamboyant, Penryn College, St Peter’s, Summerhill Prep, Curro Nelspruit, Woodlands and hosts Riverview Prep competed in their annual athletics event on Saturday. Several records were broken.
The region’s toughest primary school athletes competed in the next round of athletics at Laerskool Malelane on Tuesday afternoon. The top athletes in each item qualified for the Ehlanzeni team and will compete in the provincial championships on March 4.
