KAAPMUIDEN – After a man was caught with 15,8 kilograms of dagga on Friday morning, he tried to bribe police to let him go.
According to Sgt Pretty Khoza, police were conducting a stop-and-search operation on the N4 near the Nkomazi Toll Plaza when they stopped Nkosinathi Ginindza (30). They found the dagga with an estimated street value of R76 000.
He tried to bribe officers by offering them R2 000 to let him go, but they arrested him on charges of bribery and possession of an illegal substance.
Earlier that morning, three other men were arrested for possession of the same substance. Police found dagga weighing 75 grams on a passenger seat. Vusimuzi Rikhotso (43), Matome Modike (30) and Sikelela Maziya (23) were travelling from Swaziland to Tzaneen in Limpopo.
They were scheduled to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Stop-and-search operations at that particular spot have proven very successful as police have found huge amounts of drugs, as well as other contraband hidden in vehicles.
