DRIEKOPPIES – Two bodies have been discovered in a river and dam in Nkomazi on two seperate occasions in the last two weeks.
Last Wednesday, police divers found a body with both arms missing, stuck between reeds in the Komati.
They had been searching for a body since a fisherman had found a severed hand floating in the water on June 24. The body was found 200 metres from where the hand was spotted.
The body was that of a man estimated to be in his 20s. He was wearing a pair of black jeans.
Community members are urged to contact Lt Col Lindiwe Nobunga on 082-464-6332 with any information that could help identify the victim. They also urged families who have reported any missing persons to come forward.
On Monday just after 15:00, fisherman spotted a body floating near the bank of Driekoppies Dam. The man was estimated to be in his mid 30s to early 40s and about 1,4 metres tall.
The police were notified, and upon closer inspection of the body, found a backpack containing compressed dagga. Police suspect that the victim may have been dealing in dagga.
The deceased was wearing black formal trousers with a black belt, a black golf shirt with a blue sticker on the left side of the chest, black formal shoes and black socks with a dice pattern.
