MALALANE – Colourful, messy fun was the order of the day at the second annual Mascor Colour Festival at Laerskool Malelane on Friday.

Pupils competed in several events, including box-cart races, climbing up netting, throwing rings over cones and seeing how far they can throw a pool noodle.

They participated in colour bursts in which they threw powdered paint at each other (and even the principal), and in dance and lip-sync competitions.

Most children were unrecognisable under layers of paint, but all of them had the time of their lives and cheered their friends on. Parents watched all the fun from the pavilion, but several also sported colourful stains due to hugs or guerrilla attacks by their children, by the time they went home.

The tuck shop was stocked with various foods and drinks to ensure both participants and spectators kept their energy up in the blazing sun.

After 17:00 teams from outside the school could try their hand at the obstacles, culminating in a fun lumo party at 19:00. DJs provided music and participants danced while they glowed in the dark.

Guests could also bring their cooler boxes for a bring-and-braai and chill with friends until the late hours.

The school would like to thank all of the sponsors, helpers, teachers and supporters who helped make this an event to remember.
