Malelane Masters win their first cricket match of the season

The Malelane Masters XI cricket team started their new season off by easily winning a match against LVCC from Mbombela at Riverview Prep School on Saturday.

Round one of the season is the Ehlanzeni Promo T20 League and Malelane won the match in just 10,1 overs.

Malelane won the toss and elected to field first. LVCC managed to get 77 for 8 in their 20 overs, with Malelane matching it at 78 for 3 with 9,5 overs remaining.

The home team’s stand-out batsmen were Carel van der Westhuizen with 27 not out, Shaun Petzer at 22 not out and Arno Hoffman with 14.

Bowlers Waldo Freese (3), Erens Zeelie (2), Greg Derhamm (2) and Jan-Hendrik Odendaal (1) took out the eight wickets.

Malelane Cricket Club would like to thank Riverview Prep for the facilities and really appreciate the chance to make the school’s field their home.

The team will be playing against Welverdien at Hoërskool Bergvlam in Mbombela on Saturday at 14:00. Supporters are welcome.

Practice is from 18:00 to 20:00 on Tuesday and Thursdays at MSD Farms and Wednesdays at Riverview Prep from 16:30 to 18:00.
