Matrics celebrate end of school careers with glitz and glamour

DRIEKOPPIES –  The girls looked glamorous in their glittering dresses, while the boys looked stylish in their suits for the Driekoppies Combined School’s matric farewell dance last Friday.

The event was hosted at Imbongozi Lodge and honoured by the Khulangwane circuit manager, Ms Memory Thembi Khoza.

“We’ve worked together from grade 10. This is a big day to us. Since we left grade seven for grade eight, we have been expecting it. We remember telling our teachers that we can’t wait to wear our suits in grade 12. We got to matric and we were excited about going to the dance. Despite the change in policy that we cannot hold a farewell dance far from the school, we managed to organise a very special event,” said “Team JEST” – Junior Magagula, Evans Mathebula, Sandile Ngomane and Thandulwazi Shongwe.

The pupils had the opportunity to dance, enjoy a three-course meal and received motivation to get in them in the right mindset and recharge as they prepare for the upcoming exams.

Guest speakers delved into topics of wisdom and knowledge that the learners will need as they complete one phase of learning and move to another, like applying to tertiary learning institutions, bursaries, life at varsity, choosing the right friends and independence.

The learners enjoyed the opportunity to let their hair down and the recognition they received during a prize-giving ceremony.

The school’s principal, Mr Ernest Chibi remarked that the function went very well and hoped that the learners would apply their motivation to achieve better year-end results.

“I’m hoping for the best. I trust my educators and the learners have potential. We still have the trial exams and our one-and-half month camp left before the year-end exams. We are going to be the best,” he said.
