Police bust suspects with truck loaded with counterfeit sneakers

HECTORSPRUIT – Two police officers rushed to the Engen garage around 02:00 yesterday after getting a tip-off that a truck was parked there with a load of counterfeit goods.

Sgt. Thamzanxa Mbambo and Const Cebile Ndlovu found the truck, reportedly from Mozambique, and asked the driver and two passengers if they could search the truck.

The three individuals consented and the officers found bags full of sneakers in different brands. This seemed suspicious to the duo and they took the three suspects to the Komatipoort Police Station for further investigation.

At the station, colleagues helped the officers unload the truck. Upon investigation, they found that the bags contained counterfeit All Stars and Adidas sneakers with a street value of R418 600.

A case of contravention of the important and export control act was opened.

The suspects appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on the same day.
