SAPS looking for killer after missing woman is found dead

TONGA – Local police are urging community members to come forward with any relevant information after a missing woman was found dead on Sunday.

Qondile Mhlanga (21) from KaMdlala was last seen with a friend on April 27 and reported missing on May 4.

Her body was found, in a decomposed state and covered with branches, next to Nyatsi Dam between KaMhlushwa and KaMdlala on Sunday.

Police are investigating her murder and the 23-year-old woman who was last seen with her was brought in for questioning.

On Thursday morning, two police officers discovered dagga with a street value of R23 000 during routine stop and searches on their patrol route at Sibange Trust.

Capt Ariel Coetzer and Const Tholakele Gulwako stopped a taxi and searched the occupants. They found two compressed rolls of dagga weighing 4,7 kilograms in a big plastic bag.

A 32-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of dagga. He appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

A man was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for attempted murder last Wednesday after setting his girlfriend’s bedroom alight at around 01:00 on April 2, 2014.

According to Schoemansdal SAPS spokesman, Sgt Nompilo Qwabe, Moses Thwala and his girlfriend had a fight and he got so angry he torched her bedroom with a petrol bomb the next day. She was injured and he was arrested at his house following investigations.
