The new group of Beacon College grade ones arrived at the school in Malalane on the first day of the new term, accompanied with bags of stationery and school supplies almost as large as they were.
Although there were a few tears, the 55 new pupils quickly settled in and started colouring pictures or playing games thanks to the care and effort of the teachers.
Parents were bursting with pride and eager for their children to start learning, with one grandmother cheerfully remarking that she was so happy that her grandchild was getting a chance at a quality education.
The group of new learners, some of whom attended grade R together at Kidz Paradise, included two sets of twins, Seiraa and Serene Nixon and Ingiphile and Unathi Khoza.
Teachers said it was very heartwarming to see not only moms, but also dads attending their children’s first day of school.
Beacon College hopes to double their number of grade ones by continuing to uphold its high standard.
