[Video]: Fight for disabled being won

THAMBOKHULU – With the aim to increase awareness about the rights of these people, MEC for social development, Ms Nomsa Mtsweni was accompanied by the Nkomazi executive mayor, Cllr Thulisile Khoza and other stakeholders to celebrate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

In addressing members of the public, Mtsweni said she appreciated the love and support shown by the community at large.

“We feel welcome and loved today, that is why we decided to give 22 extra houses, food parcels and five wheelchairs as well. The premier of the province said he chose me to work for people and I thank him for giving me that opportunity.”

She said the community came in their numbers because this day was celebrated nationwide on December 3, with the aim to teach and mentor the communities about disability.

“We want also to accelerate equal access to socioeconomic opportunities for persons with disabilities by making information available and accessible to them”, said Mtsweni.

She also appreciates the work done by Khoza in supporting people with albinism, and ruling Nkomazi areas with pride and strong ability for change.

Furthermore, two houses were visited by the Mtsweni before the event started and she shared Christmas gift of food parcels with the needy families who were identified by local social worker.

One of the beneficiaries Gogo Matobane Nkalanga (85), who lives with her grandchild and her sister said she is very fortunate to have the early Christmas present from the MEC and she felt very blessed to have been visited unaware.
