Community urged to help SAPS with murder cases

TONGA – Following calls from community members, police found two murder victims with head wounds in Block C and Naas’ Gritana section over the weekend.

The motives for the killings are still unknown.

Around midnight on Saturday police received a tip-off that someone had been murdered in Block C. They arrived to find the victim lying on the ground with stab wounds to the head.

No suspects have been identified, thus police are calling on community members to give any information on the incident.

The second victim was the 21-year-old Sipho Ndzimba, who was allegedly beaten to death by his 35-year-old friend in Naas’ Gritana section on Saturday morning.

A community member called the police to report a murder, and they arrived to find the victim on the ground with wounds to the head. He had allegedly had a fight with the suspect.

The latter was arrested and briefly appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to Monday.

Tonga police are also investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the East Gate section of KaMhlushwa last Thursday night.

Four armed men entered a shop at around 19:30, as the owner was about to close for the day.

They threatened him with firearms and demanded money. They proceeded to ransack the shop and fled on foot with cash and a cellphone.

A case of business robbery was opened.

Another armed robbery occurred at a shop at Tonga View on Monday morning.

The victim and his two brothers were in the shop at 06:00 when four men entered the shop. One of the suspects threatened them with a firearm and ordered them to lie down, before demanding cash.

The other three men searched the shop and stole cash, three cellphones and airtime vouchers. The suspects fled the scene in a red BMW without number plates.
