Lions roam the Matsulu area after escaping from the KNP

MATSULU – Residents were urged to take care after four male lions that escaped from the Kruger National Park (KNP) were spotted in Matsulu on Monday.

The KNP believed that the lions left the park on Sunday night and deployed KNP rangers and members of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) to search for the animals.

Residents were asked to be extra vigilant and report sightings of the predators to the local police station or the KNP on 013-735-4000.

Authorities were also called to action in May when five males escaped in the Komatipoort area.

Four were recovered over the course of a day, while the fifth evaded capture. Authorities suspected that he joined his brothers in the KNP after all the commotion in the area had died down. Read about it here.
