Criminals target pedestrians after dark

KAMAQHEKEZA – According to Tonga SAPS spokesman, Capt Mzwandile Nyambi, the victim was on her way home from late-night prayer around 02:50 when she came across two men.

They threatened her with a knife, dragged her to a nearby crèche and both raped her.

A case of rape was opened at the Tonga Police Station. No arrests have been made.

The community is requested to take precautionary measures when walking at night and to travel in groups.

Several women and even couples have been overpowered and attacked or raped over the past few months, especially in Tonga and surrounds.

The public is urged to avoid walking alone at night, not to park in desolate areas and never to pick up hitchhikers.
